According to Mertler (2012), teacher reflection is an integral part of the Action Research Process. Do you see yourself as a reflective practitioner at this time? Explain what actions you take or processes you currently follow (or would like to follow) to introduce reflection into your practice.
I am in a new position this year that has me working with adult learners (the teachers at my site.) While I do still get to go into the classroom to model lessons, I am teaching to a whole new audience. I find that teaching adult learners is challenging in that we are not always coming from the same place of understanding. While I am presenting professional development or even modeling a lesson, I sometimes have to reflect in the moment and make adjustments midstream. When I did this with students I could take a small group after the lesson to fill in the holes, but I don't always have this opportunity with my staff. Something I am working to introduce to my teaching process is having materials available for teachers to preview before the "lesson" starts so I can front load some of the information ahead of time and give a little more background to teachers who need extra support before we ever go into the meeting. In this way I hope to "level the playing field" and increase capacity within my staff.
